Residency

Billy Morgan

Kunsthuis Syb is delighted to welcome artist Billy Morgan for a research residency that looks into dance-based revivalism and cultural recycling.
In her dance works, Billy takes gestures from diverse sources – social dance, medieval and present-day images of everyday life – in the belief that they carry a pre-existing social magic. Like words, gestures act as conduits for language; they transfer a historical charge. During her residency at Syb, Billy will critically reflect on this relationship to the past and the parallel often drawn between the past and nostalgia.

Billy Morgan (b. London, 1994, UK/Cyprus) is an Amsterdam-based artist. She moves between genre–performance, text, installation–to produce language-based constructions. These foreground a formal estrangement; narrative, relational, material.

At their heart is a desire for transmission. Her work has been presented at ICA London, Tanzquartier Wien, Cabaret Voltaire, Prelude, Basel Social Club, ROZENSTRAAT - a rose is a rose is a rose, Les Urbaines, Société des arts de Genève, Zurich Art Weekend and w Brzask, among others. She is a graduate of the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) and the Edinburgh School of Architecture. From 2018-2019 she studied at the Studio of Spatial Activities (ASP Warsaw). She was a 2025 Artistic Research Fellow at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Her debut story collection is due to be released in Winter 2026.
