Kunsthuis Syb welcomes artist Mikołaj Sobczak to Beetsterzwaag!

From February 19, 2026, Mikołaj will begin his research residency, exploring the historical traces of Mennonite migration and their connection to his own ancestry.

Inspired by the legacy of Menno Simons and the concept of “Mienskip,” he looks at how communities of heretics shaped landscapes, identities, and ideas of belonging through movement and adaptation. In Beetsterzwaag, he will explore the region’s rich Mennonite history, connecting with local communities and archives to approach ancestry as a fluid space between history, memory, and imagination.
