Finding Fingers Workshop, Performance Artist Moe Satt

Finding your personal gestures, playing with fingers and expression

Kunsthuis Syb invites you to join artist Moe Satt for a Fingers and Faces workshop, held in the quiet of the residency space in Beetsterzwaag. Moe began this series with local children in mind, but found himself drawn to the elderly residents of the village, and the gatherings are shaped around a small group so there is room for close attention and gentle, hands-on experiment.

Moe works through the body. Drawing on his 2024 book f n’ f (face and fingers), which lays out a choreography of 108 combinations of face and finger movement, he opens each session with a short performance so you can get a feel for his practice. From there the room is yours: you are invited to explore your own gestures and settle on a movement of your own, one that means something or means nothing at all. Moe photographs each gesture, prints it, and asks you to give it a title along with an instruction or a meaning.

The setting is intimate by design. Keeping the group small is what lets the room feel safe enough to explore something as tender as the contact between a hand and a face, and the stories that surface with it. Before we begin, we ask each participant for permission to be photographed, and for their consent to include the images in Moe’s research archive and online.
