Kunsthuis SYB

It is with great pleasure that the board of Kunsthuis SYB announces that Arnisa Zeqo has been appointed director from 1 July 2022 onwards.

Arnisa Zeqo is a curator, writer and educator, based in Amsterdam. She is co-founder of rongwrong, space for art and theory in Amsterdam. She recently completed a residency at the Rijksakademie, where her main research theme was the relationship between performance, conceptual art and ‘printed matter’ (of artist’s books) in the art ecology of Amsterdam in the 80s and 90s. Arnisa has extensive experience in Dutch art education and has been a tutor at the Dutch Art Institute (DAI), Werkplaats Typografie (ArtEZ) and the Piet Zwart Institute MFA (WdKA). Internationally, she has been involved with the American Academy in Rome, Center for Curatorial Studies Bard College. She was responsible for the educational programs of documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens. Her work is embedded in artistic practices that deal with performance, fiction and stories about art and education.

“As director of Kunsthuis SYB I want to focus fundamentally on the artistic practice, with a special focus on knowledge exchange. In addition, I find it very important to offer hospitality to partners in order to build together an artistically driven civic platform in the Friesland region. I bring with me international experience in working with all kinds of communities. I look forward to strengthening and expanding the program and the organization, in dialogue with the networks of artists and art professionals who know the area, so that developments are mindful of what is needed in the region, for example through a mentoring program. This can also build a bridge to other art institutions in and outside the Netherlands.”  – Arnisa Zeqo
