The Sybren Hellinga Art Prize & Sybren Hellinga
The Sybren Hellinga Art Prize is named after gallerist Sybren Hellinga (1926-2000) and is being organized by Kunsthuis Syb every three years in the village of Beetsterzwaag. Hellinga headed a gallery, the current Kunsthuis Syb, in Beetsterzwaag (Friesland, the Netherlands) from 1995 until 2000. The prize is meant to support starting artists and will be awarded for the 6th time this year. Previous winners are Masha de Vries (1998), Ray Moon (2001), Paulien Oltheten (2004), Lotje van Lieshout (2007) and Jetske Verhoeven (2010).

Kunsthuis Syb
Kunsthuis SYB is an artists residency in a monumental building in the middle of Beetsterzwaag. On the basis of their project plans, artists are invited by Kunsthuis Syb, to live and work in the house for a project period of circa six weeks. The emphasis hereby is on new partnerships, research and experimentation. Kunsthuis Syb is constantly searching for new ways to support young contemporary artists in their development, both within as beyond its programming, and does the same for young curators and art critics.
