In SYB, Noa Giniger turns the intimate creative process inside out and opens her studio doors. During her residency, she will invite six artist friends to each share with her a week in her ‘Zimmer’, or holiday home. With this Giniger bridges the physical distance that normally separates them.

The artists have slowly become part of her life and work. By means of online communication and even through imaginary conversations that Giniger holds with her friends on the other side of the world, they function as points of reference through which she can shape and test, adjust and elaborate her ideas. Although the work takes on different shapes and makes use of different media, the artists share an emotional and intuitive starting point.

Giniger’s project F.A.B. literally and metaphorically offers a space for conversations about personal themes such as loneliness, aging, relationships and dreams. The outcomes of these talks will be interwoven into a more universal discourse. By means of a weblog artists can contact each other and remain in touch. On Saturday and Sunday the studio is open for visitors in order to take part in conversations or activities. In this way, Giniger transforms SYB into a place of encounters, where time seems isolated and where the exchange of thoughts and ideas flourishes in a constant flux.

The outcome of the encounters with respectively Gaelle Boucand (FR/DE), Anat Spiegel (IL/NL), Halina Kliem (DE), Shana Moulton (US), Keren Benbenisty (IL/FR) and Rada Boukova (BG/FR), will eventually find their home in an artist’s book.

Noa Giniger (Israel, 1977) received her diploma in 2005 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, spent a one-year exchange in the School of Art at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA), and in 2008, completed her two years residency in De Ateliers in Amsterdam. Her work has been in numerous exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, France, Belgium, Canada and more. Giniger lives and works in Amsterdam and Tel Aviv.
