SLICA hosted the first series of 24 Hour Suburban Residencies in the summer of 2011 in Johannesburg, with projects including tree climbing, fiery horizons, shrimp cocktails & Frank Sinatra, a curatorial seminar, fridge recordings and other summery interventions. In the summer of 2012, the 24 Hour Suburban Residencies were held in the garden and outside spaces at the Sober & Lonely House and included romantic poetry between hydrangeas in Johannesburg and a mistletoe tree in Durban. Sober & Lonely is looking forward to having the third installment of these residencies at Kunsthuis SYB this summer from the 29th of May until 11th of June. Students from Minerva Academie, Frank Mohr Institute and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie have been selected after sending in a project proposal for a 24 hour residency.
